A GRAYS nurse is holding a fundraising event in Horndon as she gears up for an expedition to Burma.

Shelley Rollinson, 52, is raising money for St Luke’s Hospice in memory of her father Roger Rollinson, who passed away in November 2010, and is mountain trekking in Burma in November.

Shelley, who lives in Lower Dunton Road has raised more than £3,000 since February.

She said: “St Luke’s Hospice at Home were amazing and I promised myself I would give something back; I needed to do that and the trek in the Shan mountains in Burma seemed perfect, though it won’t be easy.”

Her latest event is this Sunday, and it is being held at the Scout Hut in Horndon-on-the-Hill village park.

The “vintage” tea experience starts at 11am and will see the sale of teas, coffees, cream teas, cakes and biscuits. There will be a competition for the best cake, tastiest savoury bake, largest home grown vegetable, best children’s cake or cookie.

Anyone can enter the competitions, but entries should be handed in before 11am on Sunday. In addition, there will be a BBQ, live music from talented Horndon musicians a vintage ice cream van, face painting and more.
