CATS and Cabaret are some of the musicals getting the brass treatment in a free concert by the borough’s oldest band.

Grays Town Band will be playing at Socketts Heath Baptist Church, Grays, on Sunday reworking some old classics as well as more modern fare in the brass band style.

Formed in 1888, the band is the oldest in Thurrock, has played at the Imperial War Museum and has members ranging from seven years old to 87.

Dave Honeywell, chairman and musical director of the band, said: “We hope that people will come along to support their local band.

“Our concerts are always friendly and informal and this time the band will play a wide range of music including songs from musicals such as Cats and Cabaret, modern pop songs and more traditional pieces.”

There is no need to book tickets for the performance, which starts at 7pm, and there will be refreshments available at the venue.

As well as organising its own performances, it also supports many community events and offers tuition to children and adults for £1 per week For further information on tuition, membership of the band, or the concert itself, call Claire on 07813 338105 or visit www.graystownband.co.uk
