A BOWLS club almost forced to fold following the closure of a popular Corringham social club has been saved...and is now moving home.
The Pegasus Bowls Club, who had played their home matches at the Pegasus Sport and Social Club in Herd Lane, Corringham, has moved to the Billet field venue.
And the 50-strong club have moved into the Billet Lane clubhouse, with hopes of growing.
The club were displaced - and faced with the prospect of folding - after the Pegasus club closed last month.
The future of the club remains uncertain, but it is thought a Malaysian consortium are closing in on a deal which could see popular venue turned into a plush country hotel.
But the club’s closure three weeks ago means many of the sports clubs who called the venue home, have had to merge with other local clubs or fold entirely.
With the help of Thurrock Council though, the bowls club, which is 55 years old, is now ready to start the new season.
Gil Moore, who is a club committee member, said: “The old aged pensioner’s have done well! We’ve refurbished it a bit and made it liveable. We’ve got an open day on Sunday, June 22, and would love for new members to join us. We’re especially short on women and social and beginner players.”
