Thurrock Gazette: EU ELECTIONS: Ukip storms to victory in Thurrock's EU vote EU ELECTIONS: Ukip storms to victory in Thurrock's EU vote

UKIP has stormed to victory in Thurrock's EU vote, taking a whopping 45 per cent of the vote.

Just days after it was announced Ukip had gained five seats on Thurrock Council, it was announced at 10pm that the party topped the borough's EU poll.

Ukip also came out on top in the Eastern region as a whole, taking 35 per cent of the vote.

The Conservatives took 28 per cent, Labour 17 per cent and the Green Party eight per cent.

This means that the Eastern region will be represented in Europe by three Ukip members - including Aveley resident Tim Aker - three Conservative members and one Labour member.

The vote in Thurrock saw Ukip's share of the EU vote rocket from 22 per cent in 2009 to 45 per cent this year.

Labour's vote rose from 18.3 per cent in 2009 to 22.8 per cent in 2014.

Meanwhile, the Conservative's vote share for the EU elections fell from 22.7 per cent in 2009 to 19.5 per cent.

Sad that the left wing anti EU party No2Eu didn't do better. They are the human face of anti EU. I fear lack of publicity may have been to blame. People will come to regret UKIP and their odd views. They want more tax cuts for the very wealthy , for example and to take away your rights.
No2Eu want out of EU, but to keep your holiday entitlements etc.

The best way to destroy UKIP in Thurrock is have them form a coalition with the Conservatives to run Thurrock Council. Just look what happened to the Liberal Democrats when they formed a coalition with the Conservatives nationally.

Funny how certain people in UKIP like arch liar Timur Aker (real name) make up things about other party members but hide their own backgrounds.

Accusing others of being BNP and EDL when they in fact associate with both.
"Cllr" Robert Ray of UKIP Thurrock is a known ex National Front member ... funny how they can get away with such associations.

Still, when you brown nose Farage anything is possible.

Can't wait to see Aker take up his new position. He has one or two "social" problems that may well get in the way and is not fit for purpose.

For a start, he is one hell of a backstabber who wouldn't know a fact from a hole in the ground. Also has a tendency to burst into tears and throw a tantrum when things don't go his way.

Dear oh dear.

Yes, UKIP's "odd views" by and large come from the loony left element of their party (see above) - and as you know, far right and far left are two sides of the same dreadful coin.

The media really needs to get its facts straight.
