A FIRE in an abandoned caravan is being treated as deliberate.

Two fire crews from Orsett attended the blaze on Love Lane, East Tilbury, at about 6.55pm yesterday, using breathing apparatus and two hose reels to put it out, leaving the scene by 7.11pm.

The caravan is understood to have been abandoned by the side of the road and the incident was reported to the fire service by a passer-by on their mobile phone.

Although the cause of the fire is unclear, firefighters are treating it as suspicious, and Essex Police were informed.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on non-emergency number 101.
