A FRANK Zappa vocalist is coming to Grays to carry the legend’s music forward.

Ike Willis was a regular member of Zappa’s studio and touring bands from 1978 until the composer’s death in 1993 and was the voice of Joe on the Joe’s Garage rock opera album.

On his deathbed, Zappa told Willis to “go out there and carry this music forward” and will be doing just that at the Thameside Theatre on May 16 backed by Dutch tribute band ZAPPATiKA in what is their only gig in the south east.

Willis and ZAPPATiKA were last together on stage during a three hour headline show at the annual Zappanale festival in the German coastal town of Bad Doberan four years ago.

They will be supported in their Grays gig by Gumbo Variation, a young Zappa-influenced band from Norwich.

Tickets are priced at £13.50 and are available to purchase at www.thurrock.gov.uk/thameside-theatre, by calling 0845 300 5264 or directly from the theatre box office.
