FIREFIGHTERS battled a large rubbish fire in Bulphan this afternoon.

Crews from Grays, Orsett, and Brentwood, were called to Brentwood Road after 3pm and further equipment was provided by fire crews from Halstead and Rayleigh Weir.

The incident commander reported a pile of mixed waste covering an area of 50m by 50m was completely alight.
