Waltham Abbey 2, Aveley 2

GLEN Golby’s wonder-strike salvaged a point for the Millers as they drew 2-2 away at Waltham Abbey on Thursday night.

The centre half’s effort in the 61st minute levelled the match after Justin Gardner’s side fell behind early in the second half.

Before that Aveley took a fortuitous lead when Kyle Asante’s cross from the right looped over the head of the Abbey goalkeeper Matt Gill and in off the far post after 11 minutes.

But the lead wasn’t to last until half time after Ayrton Coley had the simple task of tapping home James Peagrum’s cut back 25 minutes after Asante’s opener.

Aveley suffered an early blow in the second half when their centre half, Jay Leader, failed to re-emerge after the break suffering from an ankle problem.

And when Peagrum broke the offside trap of the make-shift Millers defence inside the first 30 seconds of the half to put Abbey in front it only compounded Gardner’s misery.

That was until Golby got on the end of a poor clearance from the Abbey defence to lash home the equaliser, with his strike arching away from Gill and finding the top corner, giving Gill absolutely no chance.
