ELECTRONIC signs at Thurrock bus stops will provide improved departure information.

The signs will show timetable information for bus services with predicted departure information on routes where buses have the technology to provide such information.

Thurrock Council has been working alongside bus operator Ensign, Southend Council and Essex County Council to provide the service.

The displays are also are being fitted with audio capabilities so announcements can be made using the Royal National Institute of Blind People React 3 system.

Downloadable phone and web travel information is also being developed.

Councillor Andy Smith, responsible for highways and transport, said: “This is a great improvement on the old system and now local people using the buses will have up-to-date information about their bus.

“We are working on other technological developments too so that people will be able to time their trip to the bus stop perfectly, using their mobile phone and so on.”
