A REVIEW into a charter launched two years ago aimed at supporting veterans has found more could be done to promote it.
The Thurrock Council’s Veterans’ Charter was adopted two years ago following consultations.
The charter aims to support veterans get the information and services they need, and by recognising they may have issues that can impact on their well-being and affect their adjustment to civilian life.
Thurrock Council will be arranging training for staff to learn more about the charter and to raise awareness of the issues veterans face.
A workshop to explore how to better promote the charter will be held early summer.
Portfolio holder for communities, Councillor Lynn Worrall, said: “I would like to thank all the organisations and people who helped with the review.
“The Veterans’ Charter is an important commitment of support for all who have served in the armed forces and we are fully committed to working with our partners to ensure it is an effective tool.
“Holding a workshop will also help us promote the Community Covenant we have signed with Essex County Council and partners to encourage support between the civilian community and armed forces personnel living in Thurrock.”
The final report of the review is available via www.thurrock.gov.uk, and following the links to Community and living, and Pride in Thurrock.
