People are queuing up to invest in Thurrock
10:57am Thursday 27th March 2014 in News
THURROCK has some of the most exciting regeneration plans in the country, that’s according to one cabinet member of council.
Councillor Andrew Smith, whose portfolio is regeneration, highways and transport, highlighted the plans for a £800million makeover of Purfleet, the regeneration of Grays High Street and the improved retail offer coming to Lakeside as a prime example of the investment coming into the borough.
Speaking at last night’s full council meeting, Mr Smith also mentioned the South Essex College campus in Grays which is due to open in September.
Mr Smith said: “We’re going to get more and more investment coming into Thurrock. Thurrock is the capital of regeneration throughout the country right now. People are queuing up to invest in the borough.”
Mr Smith also highlighted the four key areas of transport and highways he wants to prioritise.
The provision of free-flow tolling at the Dartford Crossing; the upgrading of junction 30/31 on the M25; the widening of the A13 and the resistance of the Lower Thames Crossing, option C.
Mr Smith also stated his desire to start a campaign demanding a train station for West Thurrock. He said: “It’s a big enough area, and it deserves one.”
