A MUM told how an paramedic rushing to her four-year-old son was delayed at the level crossing in East Tilbury.
The woman, who does not want to be named, said her son had a stomach bug, but suddenly became violently ill.
She said: “When the paramedic arrived, she told me she’d been stuck on blue lights at the crossing for four minutes while my child waited.
“Can you imagine if the situation had been worse? I can only thank God it wasn’t.
“This is another example to the powers that be of how badly we need something done about the dangerous situation here.
“We want something done – a bridge, a tunnel, another route – something has to be done or people will die while waiting.”
The Gazette reported in December a woman died after an ambulance got stuck at the crossing.
A consultation, set up by South Basildon and East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe , showed 93 per cent of residents in East Tilbury thought it was an urgent problem.
East Tilbury councillor John Purkiss is also keen to see a resolution soon.
He said: “I’m very concerned about what is happening with the crossing.
“I hope to see a resolution come forward soon, but understand a public consultation by Network Rail won’t finished until May.”
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “A feasibility study is under way, but no suitable solution has been identified yet.”
