A SERIOUS crash involving two cars has caused for a road in the Lakeside shopping centre basin to be closed.

The collision, thought to involve two vehicles, happened shortly after 9pm on Friday night.

The Lancaster Roundabout, which links West Thurrock Way, the southern entrance to Lakeside and the A126 is closed.

Fire crews, police and the ambulance service are currently at the scene of the collision.

No one is thought to have suffered any serious injuries following the crash.

Earlier tonight, police had tweeted saying they were out on Operation Wagtail, which clamps down on cruisers and racing at and around Lakeside shopping centre.

But one police officer tweeted to confirm this accident is not cruiser related.

PC Paul Armstrong, a neighbourhood constable for West Thurrock said: "Serious RTC at Lakeside. Avoid area. Not cruiser related!

He added: "Road will remain closed for some time due to investigation."
