PUPILS from a Grays school will be producing, presenting and performing two concerts with a top London orchestra next month.

The pupils from William Edwards School, in Stifford Clays Road, will take to the stage at the Backstage Centre, Purfleet, with the City of London Sinfonia as part of a project put together by music charity Orchestras Live.

The project, known as First Time Live – Youth, puts the youngsters at the centre of things with ultimate responsibility for a major production.

Pupils have a say in all aspects of the production, including selecting the concert repertoire, scriptwriting, sound and lighting design and stage management.

The concerts will feature various pieces of classical and orchestral music, including the theme tune for cult mobile game Angry Birds.

The project aims to target young people who have had little or no access to live orchestral music and who live in areas in the bottom 20 per cent for levels of arts engagement.

The concerts will take place on Thursday, March 20, at 10.15am and 1.15pm.
