A MAN is critically ill in hospital following a road crash in Tilbury last night.

The 72-year-old, who lives locally, reportedly lost control of his car while travelling along Fort Road at 7pm.

His silver Vauxhall Astra flipped and he sustained a variety of serious injuries. He was taken to Royal London Hospital by paramedics where he is currently in a critical, but stable condition.

A section of the road was closed for approximately five hours while police tried to identify the cause of the crash.
