A PARCEL delivery man has been cautioned by police after he attacked a Basildon shopper in front of a six-year-old girl.

Ryan Calder, 30, was punched in the face by the Parcelforce worker several times on Monday morning.

Mr Calder was walking into B&Q, at Pipps Hill retail park, Basildon, with his daughter, six, when the driver bumped into him and another man with his parcel.

Mr Calder, of Mackley Drive, Corringham, asked the driver twice if he was going to apologise.

When he got no reply he turned to his daughter and called the delivery man an “idiot”.

The man dropped his parcel before launching himself at Mr Calder.

B&Q staff had to drag the Parcelforce worker away, before calling the police at about 9.30am.

He was later given a caution for assault causing actual bodily harm, which Mr Calder's wife said was not enough.

Essex Police usually hand out cautions for first-time offenders and when there is very little injury suffered.

Laura Calder, 31, said: “I’m just so annoyed this has happened.

“My husband was an innocent bystander and he was attacked.

“There’s no justice.”

Mr Calder was left with a sore head following the attack, but suffered no further injuries.

However, Mrs Calder said her daughter had been left shocked and shaken and was suffering nightmares after witnessing the incident.

Mrs Calder has demanded Parcelforce tells her what has happened to her husband’s attacker.

So far it has not replied.

She said: “Parcelforce is a worldwide company. You would think it would care and at least phone us to see howwe are.

“I want to know how it is going to deal with this man. I’m not being fobbed off.”

Essex Police confirmed they had cautioned a 39-year-old Wickford man for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He will face no further action.

A Spokesperson for Parcelforce said: “Parcelforce Worldwide can confirm an employee has been suspended following a reported incident yesterday, whilst an internal investigation is carried out. We also understand the police are not taking any further action.”
