DRIVERS have reported sightings of horses escaping through a broken fence on land next to Ship Lane, Aveley, and running across the road to get into greener fields.
Police reported a number of calls in just one evening from motorists.
Resident and Aveley street representative Teresa Webster said a motorcyclist recently received facial injuries when he collided with a horse.
She said: “Because the horses are constantly on that road, it’s a danger to people’s lives. Is it going to take a fatality for something to be done about this?”
The road has a 50mph limit and is close to the M25 and A13. Police want to find the owner of the land.
PC Leigh Munden, the local officer for Aveley, said: “This is a historical issue we are aware of and are working closely with Thurrock Council and other agencies to resolve.”
