POLICE will crack down on large lorries using a busy residential road in West Thurrock.

A survey by Thurrock Council found lots of heavy goods vehicles are breaching a 7.5 tonne weight restriction on London Road, which was introduced last August.

Councillor Andy Smith, in charge of highways, said: “We brought in this weight restriction to try to stop this menace. Now we have solid proof lorry drivers are flouting the rules.”

A police spokesman said: “The Commercial Vehicle Unit will carry out patrols in the area of London Road, West Thurrock, following concerns raised.”
