FIRE fighters were called to a small fire in an empty storage tank in Coryton earlier today.
Four crews from Corringham, Orsett and Grays attended the shout at the former Shell Haven just before 1pm.
Crew wore breathing apparatus and used one main jet to extinguish the fire alongside on site Shell fire fighters just before 2pm.
Station Officer Geoff Wheal, from Corringham, said: "The workers were carrying out maintenance work on the empty storage tank. They were cutting away at the steel flooring and welding when tarmac at the base of the tank started to smoulder and caught alight.”
