THE first act to perform at a series of funk and soul nights in Orsett has been announced.

The Drizabone Soul Family will be opening the first of four events set to take place this year at the Goldmine club night at Orsett Hall on Friday, February 7.

The four-piece, who have previously shared the stage with Nile Rodgers and Chic as well as Eliza Doolittle, will be bringing their exciting live show to the hotel which promises to feature grooves well into the small hours.

The first Goldmine night was held back in November and was a complete sell out. Organisers are urging people to buy their tickets now to not miss out on the show which will also feature a top line-up of yet to be announced DJ’s.

The Goldmine was originally a club in Canvey that was made famous for its jazz, funk and soul nights, and was hosted by legendary DJ Chris Hill.

Organisers Steve Abbs and Simon Croft, both themselves soul DJ’s were regulars to the club.

Steve said: “I used to go to the Goldmine when I wasn’t working myself. People would flock in from all around the country just to be part of the famous soul scene.

“The club was demolished over 20years ago which has left us with just good memories.”

The night will run from 7.30pm-2am, and is for over 30s. Tickets are £15 and available by calling the Orsett Hall on 01375 891402 or online by visiting www.eventbrite.co.uk/event/6289174089.

Further events throughout the year will take place on May 30, August 29 and November 21.
