£2.7m Grays primary school expansion poised to get go-ahead
12:00pm Thursday 16th January 2014 in News
PLANS are in place to build four classrooms and a nursery at a school in Grays.
The proposals would see pupil numbers rise by more than 100 at Little Thurrock Primary School, in Rectory Road, and would cost nearly £2.7million.
A planning application for the new buildings will go before the council tonight, where it’s being recommended for approval.
A six-week public consultation opens tomorrow to discuss lowering the age range of the school to three, to allow a nursery to go ahead.
The recent closure of the nursery at Thurrock and Basildon College has heightened the demand for places in the borough, in particular in the Little Thurrock and Chadwell St Mary areas.
The proposed nursery would provide places for up to 52 children. The £2.68 million sum for the project was approved by Thurrock Council last June.
A council spokesman said no comment would be made until after the consultation. The school didn’t respond to the Gazette.
