CHILDREN’S hats thought to pose danger to life were seized from Grays market.

Styled as characters from popular kids characters such as Despicable Me and Hello Kitty, the hats were confiscated as part of a nationwide crackdown.

Tests carried out by trading standards revealed the hats posed a strangulation risk and were missing required manufacturer information and safety warnings, despite some featuring the necessary safety mark.

Thurrock Council is now warning people to be wary of the hats, which value up to £10.

Angie Gaywood, the councils lead on public protection, said: “The hats appeal to young children as they show well known characters, but parents must understand the dangers these hats present.

“If you have already bought one, please dispose of it safely.”
