A WEEK of torrential rain has led to games involving Thurrock's non-league football sides being called off.

For the third match-day running, torrential rain caused waterlogged pitches.

At the time of writing (7pm) Thurrock's match with Witham was the only game due to be played in the borough on Saturday not to have been called off.

But with the Met Office having issued a severe weather warning for Thurrock on Friday evening, the chances of the Ship Lane pitch being fit for the top-of-the-table clash are extremely slim.

Tilbury, Aveley and East Thurrock United all moved to call off their games with Harlow Town, VCD and Kingstonian, respectively, earlier on Friday afternoon.

Grays Athletic's game at Enfield Town is subject to a pitch inspection at 9am tomorrow.

Tilbury boss Paul Vaughan said on Twitter: "Tilbury v Harlow game off confirmed waterlogged pitch. This is getting boring now!"

On New Year's Day, just two games went ahead in the Ryman Division One North; Harlow Town's clash with Ware on the Hawk's 3G pitch and Cheshunt vs Waltham Abbey.
