A MAN was left needing stitches after he was glassed on a train at Grays.

The 44-year-old from Stratford was on a c2c train bound for Shoeburyness from Fenchurch Street on Saturday, December 28 when he was attacked by a man thought to be aged between 28 and 35.

At first, the victim had been engaged in "amicable" conversation with his attacker on the train. The pair had been sharing a drink.

Detective Constable David Bishop said: "The conversation turned hostile and as the victim stepped back to move away, the man used the glass he was holding to hit the victim on the back of the head."

The British Transport Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Both men got off the train when it arrived at Grays at around 9.25pm, with the attacker then making a run for it.

Police were called and the victim went to hospital, where he was treated with stitches for the wound.

The attacker is described as white, aged between 28 and 35, with fair hair. He was of slim but athletic build and was dressed casually in a red top and jeans.
