FOUR residents have been left homeless this Christmas after the roof of a block of flats was torn off.
The two-storey black of flats in Bridgland Road, Purfleet was badly affected by the storm with crews from Orsett and Grays called to help at the scene shortly after 4pm yesterday.
The electrics were isolated and the possessions of the inhabitants were protected using sheets after the felt roofing collapsed.
Steven Powley, Lead Fire Fighter at Grays Fire Station, said the Red Cross had been contacted but it is believed the residents have found accomodation with family in the area.
