LOCALS in Thurrock and surrounding areas are getting behind a council’s new policy of asking for peoples ID when using the tip on Buckingham Hill Road.
Thurrock Council introduced the scheme on December 9, and already residents are starting to see a difference.
Councillor Victoria Holloway, in charge of environment at the council, said there have been a number of compliments for the advice and assistance being given to residents by site staff.
She said: “They are helping rubbish be sorted and recycled where possible and there have been lots of positive comments too about the lack of traders and the reduced number of vans at the site.
“There hasn’t been an increase in the number of fly-tips reported to the council since the changes were introduced, but we will be keeping a close eye on fly-tipping across the borough and will work with our enforcement colleagues to prosecute offenders.”
Since the introduction, all vans visiting the site are asked to fill in a form to detail where the rubbish came from. If the same vehicle is seen using the site frequently then investigations and a property visit takes place to check the rubbish is not coming from a business or trader.
