A MAN was rushed to hospital after a metal pole he was carrying across the road got hit by a car, causing him serious injury.
Police were called to Orsett Road, in Grays by the ambulance service shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.
It is thought that two men had been crossing Orsett Road while carrying a metal pole.
Police believe the pole was then struck by a Peugeot 207, resulting in injuries to one of the men.
As officers launched an investigation - closing the road for over an hour - paramedics took the man to Basildon Hospital with what were thought to be serious injuries.
The man was later transferred to Queen's Hospital in Romford and is now said to be in a stable condition.
Police say enquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police on 101.
