A MAN who made a name for himself as a TV wrestler in the 1970s - fighting at Grays Civic Hall on his way to becoming Southern Area champion - is back in the town with fun-filled show of musical memories.
Neil Sands, yesteryear’s “Golden Boy” of heavyweight wrestling, has been producing and appearing in various theatre productions in the last 17 years.
On Wednesday, November 6, he brings his show Happy Days Are Here Again to the Thameside Theatre.
Aimed at senior citizens, the show takes its audience back to the 1940s, 50s and 60s with performances of songs made famous by the likes of Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Vera Lynn, Max Bygraves, Elvis, Dusty Springfield and more.
The two-hour show has been all over the country and it features Neil performing with two West End singers, Gemma Turner - who has appeared at the London Palladium and Royal Albert Hall - and Annika Rands who is recently returned from a stint performing on luxury cruise ships.
Neil who lives near Ipswich said: “It’s a real feel good mixture of sing a long songs, show tunes and good old fashioned fun, with some amazing costumes and a unique atmosphere that will touch your heart. So many older people these days are not comfortable venturing out in the evening to see shows so this is the perfect show for them.
“I have so many memories of “Happy Days” spent wrestling in Grays in the 70’s so anyone who remembers me from my wrestling days, will know I have always been a showman and this really will be a show to remember for a long time.”
