A NEW 22-bedroom hotel with leisure facilities could be built on green belt land in Orsett after plans were earmarked for approval.

Plans have been submitted to build the new barn-style hotel to Thurrock Council and would be built on the grounds of Orsett Hall, to the north of the main hotel.

The basement area would have access to the basement of the existing hotel and would have a gym and swimming pool, with jacuzzi and sauna.

The ground floor would have 13 bedrooms and the first floor would have nine further rooms.

Although the development would be within the green belt, it is thought as the land has already been built on, this will be enough to grant approval.

A car park with 25 spaces would be part of the plan.

The council has been in the spotlight recently over building on green belt as it looks to build 22,000 homes by 2026.

Residents were furious after Secretary of State for communities Eric Pickles approved 350 homes at Butts Lane, in Stanford-le-Hope.

The plans will go before the council’s planning committee today (Thursday).
