A GRAYS chef has won a national curry award after being voted one of the best in the business.
Koyes Ahmed, chef at the Spice Hut in Crammavill Street, Grays, triumphed at the 2013 Curry Chef of the Year Awards, held at the Lancaster Hotel, London.
He was one of 44 chefs to receive official recognition for their contribution to the industry.
He said: “I love what I do and it is nice to see that my style of cooking at the Spice Hut has been recognised.
“A successful business is a team effort so this award is for everyone I work with.
“The award will inspire us to keep improving and I’d also like to thank all our customers for their help putting us on the map.”
Secretary of State for Communities Eric Pickles was at the event with Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price.
He said: “Asian cuisine plays such an important role in our national life, so it’s right we celebrate and recognise the great achievements of this industry.
“I congratulate all of the winning chefs.”
