Thamesmead Town 1 - 0 East Thurrock United
Grays Athletic 1 - 5 AFC Hornchurch
Thurrock 2 - 0 Corinthian Casuals
Hythe Town 2 - 1 Aveley
Tilbury 3 - 0 Needham Market
Excellent performance from Tilbury sees them cruise into the next round of the FA Trophy. Dockers as good as Needham were poor but 3-0 a fair score.
Francis hit a second minute penalty before Cook's sensational goal made it 2-0. A second penalty, this time converted by Ashton made it 3-0.
Needha, barely threatened, Chico was barely tested.
So a day that started with the sad news of Robin Nash's passing, ends with Tilbury in the next round of the FA Trophy, £2,500 better off and a very pleasing performance to go with it all.
TILBURY 3 - 0 NEEDHAM MARKET
Another bad day for East Thurrock in front of just 56 people at Thamesmead Town. Well below the Ryman Premier average attendance.
FULL-TIME: Thamesmead Town 1-0 East Thurrock United http://t.co/6SBmR0Gi0S— @1EastThurrockFC 05 October 2013
Torrid afternoon for Grays Athletic.
GOAL: Grays Athletic 1-5 AFC HORNCHURCH - Junior Baker (og 90') http://t.co/eWUrzYFqzT— @GAFCJones 05 October 2013
On the whole, Tilbury have been vastly superior in this game. Score line is a fair reflection. Needham have been awful.
Great wing play from Babalola. His cross from the right lands in Munson's arms.
Tilbury in charge now. Needham haven't threatened once since the third goal. Dockers knocking it around well. Very pleasing performance.
Lee Weemes - who has looked great since coming on - shoots just wide.
GOAL: GRAYS ATHLETIC 1-4 AFC Hornchurch - Jack West (87') http://t.co/eWUrzYFqzT— @GAFCJones 05 October 2013
GOAL: THURROCK 2-0 Corinthian-Casuals - Loui Hazelwood (83')— @ThurrockFCscore 05 October 2013
Harry Cook off for Lee Weemes.
Had a very good game, Cook.
Free kick as Ashton is fouled after going on a decent dribble.
Another Needham sub: Harrison Ford (yes, Harrison Ford. No, not Indiana Jones) on for Kem Izzet.
Tilbury - James Zanelli on for Rimmel Daniel
Needham Market - Fenn off for Samuel Thrower
Spectacular diving header by Crooks diverts a goal bound Needham shot over the bar!
Oliver Fenn, the Needham skipper, is booked by the referee. Aerial challenge and use of the elbow, I think.
Francis took and scored the first spot kick, but he was subbed moments before. So new signing Ashton steps up and leathers the ball in to goal's right hand side.
GOOAAALLL!!! TILBURY 3 - 0 Needham Market - Nathan Asthon, 71'
Cook felled just inside the area [what a handful he has been today]. Ref points to the Needham Market penalty spot for the second time in the game.
Excellent goal which all began from West winning yet another header. Cook battled for the loose ball on the left, won it, made for goal and looped a superb right footed, 20 yard effort over Munson, but under the bar. Great stuff.
GOOOAAALL!!! TILBURY 2 - 0 Needham Market - Harry Cook, 66'
West wins another header. The centre half and skipper has been imperious in the air.
Corner for Market that beats everyone. Kem Izzet gets it back in, Tilbury half clear but the ball goes into the back post and somehow neither Needham player at the back post can convert.
GOAL: Grays Athletic 0-4 AFC HORNCHURCH - Stefan Payne (63') http://t.co/eWUrzYFqzT— @GAFCJones 05 October 2013
Both sides hurrying everything. Blackman gives the ball away to Izzet as he rushed forward, but Izzet then plays an early ball which West heads clear. Very little composure on show at this stage. 14 minutes in.
GOAL: THAMESMEAD TOWN 1-0 East Thurrock United - Tyrus Gordon - Young (59') http://t.co/6SBmR0Gi0S— @1EastThurrockFC 05 October 2013
Free kick in a good area for Tilbury, crossing opportunity as Francis is pulled back.
Scrappy opening to the second half. Neither side delivering the killer ball at the moment, as Daniel spoons the aforementioned free kick high over the bar.
Needham keep the pressure on though and Garrard is at the back post to meet a cross but he heads it into Blackman's head.
Great work by Newson down the left as he outmuscles Mead and cuts back. But there's not much on as he looks to cross and his pass is short.
GOAL: Grays Athletic 0-3 AFC HORNCHURCH - Carl Rook (49') http://t.co/eWUrzYFqzT— @GAFCJones 05 October 2013
Chance for Dockers, the ball is with Cook in the penalty area. He tries to work space for the shot, but is denied. Uneasy moment for the Needham defence.
Kem Izzet has a cross from the right collected by Ramos.
Second half up and running as Cutler and Cook get us underway.
So a Dan Francis penalty separates the two sides at Chadfields. Dockers excellent in the first 20 minutes. But Needham have grown into the game and came very close to levelling the scores.
Cook, Francis, Asthon, West and Mead playing very well for the hosts.
Half time scores from elsewhere:
Thamesmead Town 0 - 0 East Thurrock United
Grays Athletic 0 - 2 AFC Hornchurch
Tilbury 1 - 0 Needham Market
Hythe Town 2 - 1 Aveley
Thurrock 1 - 0 Corinthian-Casuals
Half time: Tilbury 1 - 0 Needham Market
Scary moment as West deflects a tame shot up into the air, forcing Ramos to tip it over. But again, when the corner comes in, Ramos gathers.
Munson, the Needham keeper, is having a mare from goal kicks. Another poor ball ends up being sent straight back into the Market dangerzone, but Francis can't capitalise.
Ball eventually comes in and Ramos is forced into a save as Ingram shoots on the turn.
Garrard punces on an error by Christou. He crosses, but no Needham forward can turn it in. Coakley with a corner from the right now. But only after the referee has had a chat with Crooks and Townrow.
Decent effort from Ingram, who's really come alive. His low shot from 25 yards is going in, but for a decent save by Ramos. First shot on target, first test for Ramos and he does well.
He gather the resulting corner ball, too.
Mead forced to clear a teasing cross by Newson. Cook then sets Ashton off down the left, but his cross is just over Cook.
Still nothing to test Ramos: Needham yet to hit the target.
Another good move from the visitors. Igram runs - unchallenged from the half-way line - into the box, plays a close one-two with Newson before shooting just wide.
The best move of the game from Needham, and Garrard should do better. Charles holds the ball up in the corner, lays it off to Izzet whose cross is met on the penalty spot by Garrard who heads over.
GOAL: HYTHE TOWN 2-1 Aveley - Dave Cook (28')— @AveleyFC 05 October 2013
Corner by Cutler isn't a good one and Needham clear... just.
Immediately though, the visitors are back under pressure. The ball is played into Francis who controls well before tee-ing up Cook who strikes the ball just wide from 18 yards.
Corner. Excellent cross field pass by Francis into Ashton. He runs at Brown, who blocks the cross.
Needham then go forward but again, the forwards - who look as though they have never played together - squander an opportunity to threaten.
Class from Francis and he's unlucky in the end. A poor clearance by Munson is straight back into the box. Francis gathers, then flicks the ball over Munsford but the ball is cleared.
A corner is played into the back post headed back across goal and Francis goes for the over head kick, but doesn't connect.
Nathan Ashton makes a good run forward, but loses control of the ball down the left and it's a goal kick. Needham's front four (Charles, Newson, Ingram, Garrard) have been desperately poor so far.
Games got a little sloppy. Passes not sticking and a fair few fouls being committed. Tilbury still good value for their second minute lead.
GOAL: Grays Athletic 0-1 AFC HORNCHURCH - Leigh Bremner (15') http://t.co/eWUrzYFqzT— @GAFCJones 05 October 2013
GOAL: Grays Athletic 0-2 AFC HORNCHURCH - Stefan Payne (16') http://t.co/eWUrzYFqzT— @GAFCJones 05 October 2013
At the other end, there's a smart exchange of passes between Cook and Francis, with the former darting to the touchline and shooting from a very acute angle. Nice move, but dealt with by Munson in the Needham goal.
Needham keep the pressure on though. But after a number of crosses that Tilbury scrap clear, award-winning stopper Ramos gathers the ball.
GOAL: Hythe Town 0-1 AVELEY - Junior Appiah (6')— @AveleyFC 05 October 2013
GOAL: HYTHE TOWN 1-1 Aveley - Dave Cook (pen 9')— @AveleyFC 05 October 2013
That cross comes to nothing.
Really good game here. Tilbury playing with so much confidence. Needham, whose side boasts Kem Izzet, who was still playing for Colchester United less than two months ago, are struggling to cope.
They are growing into the game though and Daniel has just conceded a free kick, giving Coakley the chance to deliver the ball into the box...
Should add, there was an impeccably observed minute silence before kick offin memory of Dockers former chairman Robin Nash who passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack.
There will be tributes to Mr Nash in next week's paper, to accompany a report of this game.
Charles should level the scores! He's set away and gets clear of Mead, but blasts over.
Poor ball, cleared by Brown.
Dockers still looking comfortable here as Cook - who looks very impressive and was the man taken out to win the penalty for Tilbury - turns on the half way line before setting Francis away. He's fouled. Free kick and chance to deliver.
Here are the teams today:
Ramos; Daniel, Mead, Crooks, West; Christou, Blackman, Cook, Ashton; Cutler; Francis.
Subs: Weemes, Babaloa, Zanelli, Pooley, Jacobs.
Munson; Brown, Coakley, Fenn, Townrow; Nunn, Ingram, Garrard, Charles; Izzet, Newson.
Subs: Strickland, Thrower, Ford, Driver, Plummer.
Dan Francis sends the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. Dream start for Dockers. They're all over Needham in these opening moments.
Cutler has just fired over from 20 yards.
GOOAAL! TILBURY 1 - 0 Needham Market - Dan Francis, 2'
We're under way at Chadfields and TILBURY LEAD!
