A RESTAURANT at Orsett Hall has been shortlisted for the Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year.
The Garden Restaurant, which opened two years ago, is one of two in the frame for the Essex Tourism and Hospitality Awards gong.
Head chef Robert Pearce and junior sous chef Andrew D’Amery were also in the running for the competitions Chef of the Year award.
The two talented chefs had to cook the starter and main course they submitted in their entry while later competing in a cook-off, which saw each finalist knock together a dessert from an assortment ingredients handed to them in a mystery box.
The winners will be announced on October 23, when a video of the cook-off will be shown at Boreham House.
Should the restaurant or its chefs go on to win the awards for which they are shortlisted, they will represent Essex in the England Awards for Excellence next year.
The Garden Restaurant, which takes traditional dishes and brings them into the 21st century, was opened when the hotel’s owner spotted a gap in the Thurrock cuisine market for a fine dining restaurant.
Andrea Ince, the Orsett Hall marketing manager said: “We are extremely proud and truly believe the Garden Restaurant at Orsett Hall is one of the best restaurants in Essex for fine dining outside London. The fact that two of our Chefs are in the final three is testament to this.”
