Zebra crossing boost for road
10:19am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
A NEW zebra crossing is to be installed on a busy Stanford-le-Hope road.
Work has begun on the crossing in Southend Road, after residents complained to Thurrock Council about the speed drivers travelled on the road.
A survey in 2011 found more than half of drivers regularly broke the 30mph limit, despite it being a residential area. The road is used regularly by residents crossing to use the bus stops, as well as children on the way to school.
Local Conservative councillors have been campaigning for safety measures for more than a year.
Extra road markings and a flashing speed sign were installed in the spring.
Phil Anderson, councillor for Stanford and Corringham, said: “I am pleased to see the new crossing.
“This is something we have worked hard on over the past year, and will make a real difference for residents who need to cross this busy road.”
