A TEENAGER from Grays has scaled new heights after climbing the fearsome Mount Kilimanjaro.
Alix Beesley, 17, climbed the 20,000ft mountain in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, raising £3,600.
After climbing to the summit, Alix said he had a taste for adventure and wanted to climb more of the world’s tallest peaks.
He said: “It was an unforgettable experience and one that will stay with me forever.
“I first thought of doing it after doing a course last summer called The Challenge where you work as a community to help people. I heard people talking about Kilimanjaro and I wanted to be part of it.
“It took me eight months to raise the money and it took me a while to get used to the altitude once our journey began but it was just fantastic.
“I am glad I was able to help such a great cause.”
Alix was sponsored by his friends and family, as well as his work colleagues from Starbucks at Lakeside.
His dad Dennis said: “He did a great job and the whole family is proud of him.”
Alix is already planning to climb more mountains and has his eye set on Mount Everest by 2025.
He said: “I want to climb the seven summits in my lifetime. I am looking forward to the next one.”
