POLICE have revealed an e-fit image of a suspect involved in a burglary in Tilbury where bogus council workers pulled a knife on a man before stealing cash and two engagement and wedding rings.

The man pictured resembles one of two men who conned their way into the home of the victim, aged in his fifties, in Bryanston Road telling him they were from Thurrock Council and were doing a recycling survey, even producing ID and lanyards.

After producing a knife, they demanded money and stole two white gold women’s wedding bands, two white gold men’s wedding bands, and two white gold engagement rings set with a diamond.

The victim was also forced to hand over two iPod Touches and some jewellery.

The men ran off along Sandhurst Road, heading in the direction of Moore Avenue.

One suspect is white, aged 20 to 30, 5ft 10ins tall, and of large build. He had a shaved head, was clean shaven, and was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, dark trousers, smart black shoes and a multi-coloured lanyard with ID in a clear plastic sleeve which said Thurrock Council. He was carrying a black record-style bag.

The second man is also white, aged 20 to 30, 5ft 9 ins tall and skinny. He was wearing the same type of lanyard with a long-sleeved white shirt and black shoes.

Investigating officer, Dc Steven Bailey said: "I really need to speak to anyone in this area who might have seen these men as they made their getaway, or lurking around beforehand”.

"I would urge people to carefully check identification before letting anyone into your home. If you have the slightest concern then call the organisation they say they are from. If they are genuine then they won’t mind waiting while you do this.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dc Steven Bailey, or his colleagues at Grays, on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
