THURROCK residents have been urged to take part in a consultation on making London buses cashless, which could effect them.
London buses currently use an Oyster system which offer discounts on fares and mean passengers simply “tap in” when boarding a bus without having to pay the driver a fare.
But under new proposals being touted by Transport For London, that could soon be the only way to use a London bus, meaning casual users who currently pay the driver a fare, would be unable to board a bus without an Oyster card.
There are three services operating through Thurrock which would be effected by this change.
They are the 370 from Romford to Lakeside via Ockendon, the 372 from Hornchurch to Lakeside via Aveley and the 347 from Romford to Ockendon.
Users of these services should log on to www.tfl.gov.uk/cashless to make their views known and forward a copy to passengertransport@thurrock.gov.uk so the council can also respond on residents’ behalf.
