Spy car gets the thumbs up

THE council’s portfolio holder for public protection has praised Thurrock’s spy car, affectionately known as PIPPA, after it dished out 106 tickets for driving offences.
The CCTV car, which is running on a six-month trial period, is often seen near Thurrock’s schools, ensures cars are not parked illegally and is designed to take the strain off the borough’s parking wardens.
Cllr Angie Gaywood said: “We are delighted at the progress PIPPA is making and the amount of penalty charge notices given out proves that she is a valuable asset to the community.
“On average PIPPA makes between 65 and 70 visits to schools in Thurrock every week.
“PIPPA may also be seen in other areas of the borough ensuring cars are not parked dangerously.”
PIPPA stands for Park It Properly Prevent Accidents, as chosen by local school children. There are currently seven traffic wardens in Thurrock.
