Tuesday's Ryman league round-up
It was a night of late drama for Thurrock's non league sides on Tuesday.
The week had started off badly with Aveley losing to Maldon & Tiptree on Monday thanks to a highly controversial goal.
Late goals for East Thurrock, Grays and Tilbury got them a share of the spoils in tonight's matches.
There were poor attendances across the Ryman fixtures as fans chose to stay at home and watch England and none of Thurrock's sides managed to get three points on a night of frustration.
In the Ryman Premier League 8th placed Grays Athletic drew 2-2 with 11th placed Lowestoft Town after an extraordinary end to the game. Blues fell behind just before the break but equalised only three minutes into the second half, the scorer yet to be confirmed. Lee Smith looked certain to have given Lowestoft the win with a 90th minute goal but Jared Small popped up to equalise in the dying seconds of injury time goals to break Grays resilience.
Meanwhile East Thurrock claimed a very decent point after drawing 1-1 away at high-flying Margate. It looked as though they had nicked all three points when they took the lead after 85 minutes but that lead only lasted two minutes.
In the Ryman North Division, Thurrock lost 1-0 at Kent neighbours Erith & Belvedere. Fleet conceded on the stroke of half-time despite pressing for most of the first period.
In the other match Tilbury scrambled a last gasp equaliser against Redbridge in a 1-1 draw. Danny Francis popped up for his third goal in two matches in injury time to scramble home a goal after Redbirdge looked to have won the match. Francis' goal came after two late strikes against Aveley on Saturday.
All five of Thurrock's sides will be back in FA Cup action this weekend.
