Cycling bid at railway station
7:40am Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
SIXTY new bicycle points have been installed at Grays railway station in a bid to encourage commuters to cycle there.
Thurrock Council will meet with British Transport Police to hold a bike-marking event at the station on Wednesday, September 11, between 4pm and 6.30pm.
Cyclists will be able to get their bike marked for free, allowing police to identify it if it is taken.
Cllr Andy Smith, the council’s portfolio holder for transport, said: “The council is making a determined effort to encourage more people to get out of their cars and cycle and the opening of these 60 spaces will make it easier – and safer – for train commuters to ride to the station.
“Remember, cycling is better for your health as well as better for the environment.”
