THURROCK’S premier shopping destination is getting a £9million dining zone makeover to kickstart its huge redevelopment project.
Intu Lakeside will be remodelling its food court with the introduction of new restaurants, many with their own seating areas as well as a communal dining area.
The bold new design will feature quirky additions such as pod seating and the dining quarter will match the time of day – with light fittings which recognise the time of day or night and change to suit the mood and atmosphere.
The work is scheduled to begin any day now and is expected to complete by April.
It is part of the shopping centre’s £180million improvement plan which will house 40 new stores and invest in a new leisure area.
This comes after outline planning permission was granted for a 325,000 sq ft retail extension.
Intu is also expecting to sign 13 new leases for the food court, with the letting process underway and the first names to be announced shortly.
Izzie Peskett, intu Lakeside’s marketing manager, said: “When we launched The Boardwalk, we really challenged the traditional preconceptions of what a shopping centre dining experience should look like and it was a great success.
“Now we’re doing it again with our new food court. Creativity and attention to detail have been the focus for every single physical element of the space.”
“We put our customers at the heart of everything that we do.
“The food court refurbishment is the first step towards delivering for our customers a completely new dining experience at intu Lakeside.”
The centre recently announced 360 Champagne & Cocktails would open a flagship champagne and cocktail bar in the heart of Lakeside.
The bar will have 120 seats and will provide a vantage point over the shopping centre where people can “see and be seen”.
