Award for retiring police dog
7:10am Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
A RETIRING police dog has been honoured with a Chief Constable’s Commendation, with the bravery he showed during an incident in Corringham given special mention.
Kaiser, a German shepherd, is to be rehomed after fulfilling his four-year duty as a police dog, during which time he helped Andy Kemp make more than 280 arrests.
One of those arrests was in Corringham in March.
A car had made off down a single track road after refusing to stop.
Chigwell-based PC Kemp saw the two men escape from the car and despite the wintry conditions, Kaiser picked up a scent and tracked one of the men to a water-filled ditch, keeping hold of him until PC Kemp caught up.
He said: “Kaiser is a brilliant police dog, my loyal companion and guardian and I’ll miss him very much.”
