Bins collection day changes as saga rumbles on
11:04am Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
THURROCK Council is making changes to refuse collection days as the refuse problems affecting hundreds of homes in the borough goes on.
From Monday, August 26 a number of Thurrock homes will have their bin collection day changed as the council looks for a solution to the ongoing issues. Most recently, over 100 bins were not collected on Friday, August 16.
Households affected by the changes will receive a card this week and the changes will also be on the council’s website.
Under-fire cabinet member for environment Victoria Holloway said: “We know there has been a problem; we have said sorry; and we are determined to put things right.
“We have tested the new routes over the last couple of weeks and made some final tweaks in order to ensure they work.
“In some areas we know we are making changes where there hasn’t previously been a problem, but in order to ensure a same day collection service for all three bins we have had to make those changes.”
Cllr Holloway said the refuse vehicles are seeing an increased volume of recycling waste and are having to be emptied sooner than normal.
She said: “This is a really positive reason why we have made some adjustments to the routes and I would like to thank residents for recycling more at home.
“We know making further changes is not ideal, but we want to assure people we will do everything we can to get things right and deliver an efficient and effective collection service.”
The website will be fully updated by Thursday, 22 August and will be available at www.thurrock.gov.uk/waste.
