12:35pm Friday 16th August 2013 in News
POLICE have seized four vehicles for having no insurance during an operation in Thurrock.
Officers also caught six lorry drivers operating over their weight limit – who had to off-load some of their cargo.
This meant a delay in delivery for one driver who was carrying a cargo of beer kegs.
The stop-checks at Moto services off the M25 were carried out on Thursday, August 15 under Operation Mermaid, the nationwide campaign to rid the roads of dangerous or poorly-driven commercial vehicles.
One 31-year-old man, wanted by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of theft from motor vehicle, was also arrested.
The man, from Kent, was transferred to Romford police station for Metropolitan Police officers to question.
Ten lorry drivers also received fixed penalty notices for operating over their hours.
