Musicians put on festival to raise cash for Blu
7:00am Sunday 18th August 2013 in News
TWO popular local artists hosted a special festival for a young lad with cerebral palsy in a bid to raise funds for him to undergo a life-changing operation.
Danny White, a solo artist from Grays, and Filthy Gorgeous, a duo from Grays, were among nine acts who performed at the Crooked Billet, in Stanford-le-Hope.
The all-day event on Saturday was a roaring success, raising £600, with a line-up that featured the Earnshaws as well as another duo, called Karma, and surprise act Paul Davey.
Youngsters were kept entertained with facepainting and bouncy castles, while TV characters Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam and Mickey Mouse also paid the Crooked Billet a visit.
After 8pm, a number of DJs played into the small hours.
The event, named BluFest, was in aid of Blu Hill, of Chadwell St Mary, whose mother, Laura Pond, is good friends with Alana Connor and Danny White.
Alana said: “Blu’s mum and I grew up together. Blu has got to have an operation, and that’s costly.
“But then there’s the after-care as well. So we’re trying to raise the money, but it costs thousands. I thought while I’m fronting Filthy Gorgeous, I can help do that.”
Danny, who organised the event, said: “This day was for little Blu. We’ve already had days of banger racing and bungee jumps. So we were playing with some ideas and this is what we came up with.”
After the event, Danny took to Facebook to thank everyone who helped organise the day, while Alana said: “We are overwhelmed with the support and love that was shown on Saturday.
"I am really proud of what was achieved in the two weeks that we had to organise it.
"Thank you to all the performers who gave up their time to come and play for little Blu, thank you to the Billet and all the staff who worked so hard all day and night and allowing us to use their lovely venue.”
