THE portfolio holder for communities at Thurrock Council has revealed more than 36,000 people have visited the South Ockendon Centre since it opened in March.
Cllr Lynn Worrall announced the findings at last Wednesday’s full council meeting to delight from members.
The centre, in Derry Avenue, is seen as a market place for local information, guidance and support – where residents can meet and learn how they can best support their needs. Belhus Library is also part of the centre.
Cllr Worrall said: “I am delighted to report no less than 36,226 people have visited.
“Health checks, information advice and many other council services are benefiting. The library is as popular as ever.
“The project will be a pathfinder for a wider system of hubs around the borough.
“The South Ockendon Centre is transforming council services. We are in the early stages of finding out how it affects council savings, but we couldn’t be happier.”
