Boris set to visit superport
12:00pm Friday 26th July 2013 in News
THE Mayor of London is visiting London Gateway next week to inspect the progress made on the super port site.
Boris Johnson will speak at DP World London Gateway on Tuesday morning and see how the construction work is developing and discuss the benefits the port will have for London and the South East.
Leader of Thurrock Council, John Kent, recently criticised the plans for a new Thames crossing, saying Mr Johnson’s “latest hare-brained scheme made my blood boil.”
Councillor Kent is concerned the mayor has been working with the Department for Transport to approve a Lower Thames Crossing motorway scheme.
Mr Johnson’s team recently published proposals for a new international airport in the Thames estuary on the Kent coast, either at the Isle of Grain, or even further east.
Mr Johnson’s visit will come six weeks after Prime Minister David Cameron visited the port to announce Marks & Spencer would be the first company to set up a distribution centre on the London Gateway logistics park – creating up to 700 jobs.
