YOUNGSTERS from a Tilbury school cleaned up their community.

Students from The Gateway Academy went litterpicking at the Daisy Field in Tilbury.

As part of the school’s Community Action Day, this was the third year running the academy has worked with the council to tackle litter hotspots in the town.

The group collected 15 bags of rubbish during the clean up around the field. Thurrock Council handed out black binbags and litterpickers to the willing volunteers.

Jill Bacon, from the Gateway Academy, said: “Our students and staff are proud of our area and we were delighted to work again with Thurrock Council.

“Respect for our environment is key to keeping the area clean and tidy and taking part in this campaign is a useful lesson in how we can all play our part in the community.”
