- Prime Minister David Cameron is at Stanford-le-Hope's DP World superport as Marks and Spencer announces it will be basing its warehouse there.

This is fantastic news regarding Marks & Spencer, plus also the extra jobs which will come from DP World. This will certainly put Thurrock back on the map and hopefully Grays, when the education centre is up and running - had a look today at the building going up - it is getting there!

Ive heard that Canvey residents are worried, it seems these massive container vessels, deliver a massive bow wave, which is going to decimate the canvey beaches.

As i understand it no-ones signed up yet to bring containers to the port. So all this crap about M&S signing up is a bit premature

The site was the closest the company could get to London and it says a flourishing port near the capital will be reminiscent of hundreds of years ago when the Thames was a thriving business district in its own right.

Most of the port’s customers will be transporting goods from the Far East to retailers in the UK.
The first ships should start arriving by the end of next year and when it is completely finished the port will be able to unload six of the biggest container ships in the world at the same time.
London Gateway is being built by Dubai-owned DP World, at a cost of £1.5bn, on the site of a former oil refinery.
