A GENEROUS couple who won more than £2,000 in a charity draw have given their winnings back.

The Havens Hospices weekly draw gives people the chance to win up to £1,000 every week for an entry fee of jusy £1.

Last week, Geoff and Pauline Stow, from Linford, received a call from the charity to say they had won the rollover prize of £2,200.

Geoff, 62, said: “We joined the draw three years ago after one of the charity’s canvassers came to our door.

“We have always supported children’s charities as our son sadly died at the age of 10 from a brain haemorrhage.

“We signed up not to win, but to regularly give to the hospices. “We will be donating this prize back, as we would like to give Havens Hospices the opportunity of continuing their work within our local community.”

The draw raises £800,000 a year for the charity, which cares for seriously ill children at Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley and adults at Fair Havens Hospice in Southend.

Carmel Hudson, the hospices’ weekly draw manager, said: “This is a generous donation, and I would like to thank Geoff and Pauline for their continued support.

“To have two people choose to donate their prize money back to the charity is really touching.

“Our hospices simply couldn’t exist without the support of our local community, and the weekly draw is a big part of that.”
