Compost bins on the cheap

THURROCK residents will be able to buy a discounted compost bin for the next few weeks.
More than a third of household waste is made up of material which can be composted.
Grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, unwanted plants, fruit and vegetable peelings are all acceptable.
Cllr Victoria Holloway, portfolio holder for environment at Thurrock Council, said: “We want to encourage people to reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill.
“Composting selected kitchen and garden waste is an easy and effective way of reducing, reusing and recycling some of the daily waste we produce.
“It is simple to do and once you get started, you will be surprised at just how much daily household waste can be recycled this way.”
The cheapest compost bin on offer by Thurrock Council is £16 for a 220-litre container. There is also a 330-litre bin for £19, with a £5.49 delivery charge.
